70s Dreamin'

The Attic's amazing clothing and accessories collection isn't the only reason we should be forgiven for having an attack of Seventies deja vu.

December 2017

A decade that’s been revitalized time and time again on the runway, 1970s fashion was courageous and inflated in a good way.  And this year's 70s influence in fashion was a treat, as usual.

pop tarts

Nevertheless, it seems to me that it is a very trying time for some of the designers who are trying too hard to reinvent themselves this time around, but trying to win consumer's sympathy as well.  So if something feels too manufactured and prescribed to me, I am just not buying it.  I like pulling trendy pieces from the past decades but I do like to keep it as natural and unforced as possible.

J'adore J.Crew's sheer genius! From the sublime to the meticulous, their trousers- once out of favor- are captivating again.  Long, cropped, striped and spotted, chic, gloriously high-profile trousers peppered department stores earlier this year in variations that delivered raw feminism, charm or sporty flair.

Below are just few of our favorite picks:

Trousers Affair

At A Fashion Page, vivid color and balancing proportions were the focus of this photo-shoot by John Rounds; we emphasized color with playful, cropped pants, and went characteristically steamy with ultrasexy graphic top and leather jacket.

Tennis shoes have been neglected in the past few years. Now they're not so simple or straightforward. They're more evolved, with fur trim, chunky hardware or lacing.

Few of our favorites below:

Top Row: ADIDAS,  Seychelles ,  Nike ,  River Island ,   Bottom Row: Dune London,  Ed Ellen Degeneres,  Aerin, Cole Haan

certainly hot

Certainly, our love affair with the three-quarter-length sleeve or half sleeve lends itself to a stylish leather jacket- it's the perfect way to top off a unconventionally ladylike look. But pastel color- mint- or a graphic pants pattern provides a fresh take. At the same time, supersleek, cropped leather jacket can turn up the sex appeal of a graphic Tee or flirty top.

It's a return to elegance.  Current runway fascination with past and lost decades is a reintroduction of a lost sophistication and an opportunity for a younger generations to enjoy classics.

Let's not forget that fashion is all about fun.  It is bringing the whimsy back to our life.

Coloring Faces- Interview with Danika.

Few things are more seductive than a soft shapely beautifully defined pair of ...lips.

A sophisticated mix of diva-rich shades complemented by soft, bohemian hues.

A sophisticated mix of diva-rich shades complemented by soft, bohemian hues.

Let's face it our amazing makeup artist star Danika Clevenstine deserves props for giving a lovely boost to our AFP photoshoots. She's been "coloring" faces of our models, and her style and aesthetics are always a DO! From deeply dramatic to softly romantic, every make up look produced by Danika is perfect.

AFP: Danika can you please tell us a little about Jamie's latest look?

Danika: We wanted to go for something high in glam but also keep things natural to make sure her makeup didn't take away from her beautiful looks for the shoot. This look was a peachy "smokey" eye paired with a coral lip. Even though Jamie has BEAUTIFUL lashes, we did give her false lashes to give her eyes some added definition.

Breathtaking photography by John Rounds.

AFP: Which element of make-up work do you most enjoy?

Danika: I love teaching girls how to do makeup and I also love seeing the added confidence that they have when they put it on. I love building connections with the models that I teach at a modeling agency and teaching them things that they won't only use on auditions but also for the everyday life.

AFP: Who do you most enjoy working with?

Danika: I love our fashion blog team. Any time I get to work with John Rounds in a shoot is amazing- we work very well together and his work is some of the best I've seen. I also love working with Danuta, she has an infectious personality and is so welcoming- these are my favorite individuals to works with mainly because we work so well together and bring the best fashion photography to life in the Lehigh Valley.

AFP: You've worked on a lot of A Fashion Page photo-shoots and you have worked with models at other places as well, how does that feel, and how do you prepare for those?

Danika: After working with Jamie a few times, I know how to fix her brow shape to make it perfect. When your working with a new face it's sort of a challenge and I love a good challenge! You will always work with different personalities too but it makes your job fun. Over the four years I've been a certified makeup artist, I've worked on many different faces and skin tones, you are more comfortable as time goes on. Making sure I go in prepared makes things easier so I am ready for any looks they throw at me.

AFP: Do you like creating really out-there looks, or do you prefer something classically beautiful?

Danika: I truly believe that makeup should accentuate your features and not hide them. You are made to look like you do, so I prefer a natural look. I never do a crazy eye and a crazy lip, sort of a makeup artist rule, you play only one area of the face up and tone down the other.

AFP: What do you think makes a great model?

Danika: CONFIDENCE! This is the number one thing I tell girls, be confident and the pictures will follow, it's really all you have to do. Confidence is infectious and will show through your pictures.

AFP: Does everyone look better with make-up?

Danika: That's a hard one to answer: yes or not too. I've heard the saying but I feel confident with or without makeup and even as a makeup artist most of the time I am not wearing makeup. (Danuta probably hasn't seen me once with makeup on lol!)- I actually prefer no makeup for me. Although I do believe even a small amount of makeup can help to even out skin tone or make your eyes pop. But there are days where I feel prettier without it on.

AFP: What is in your personal make-up bag?

Danika: In my personal makeup bag I have: an eye lash curler (which is key!), Tarte setting powder, makeup Forever foundation,  Buxom mascara, Tarte shape tape concealer, Anastasia brow wiz in soft brown and flower child blush by Becca- pretty much my 5 minute face items! I don't even use eyeshadows for work or eyeliner, just the basics!

AFP: If you turn up at a shoot and the model has terrible skin, what do you do?

Danika: First thing is to evaluate the skin. I keep a bag of sugar in my handbag in case we can do a sugar scrub to get off some dead skin before makeup application. There was a time where I had TERRIBLE skin and is actually why I got into makeup.  So, I am really good at helping to cover blemishes, especially with the color correction skills I learned in my makeup program.

How to... Wear Your Cutoffs this Summer!

Every season is the newest, the most exciting, and filled with endless possibilities. Your next bold and trendy outfit featuring super sexy cutoffs could be: gorgeous, unconventional or wildly sporty.

Jessica's look is Glam but still very outdoorsy! We decided to put on a leggy display (and it's never a bad idea to show a little leg!) in edgy True Religion denim shorts and a red, stripy shirt as she stepped out for an AFP photoshoot, shot by John Rounds.
We love anything that's feminine so we gave this look a feminine twist thanks to the denim blazer and subtle details.

Ladylike blazer?

What's making our hearts go pitter-patter? As fancy as it looks, this season's denim blazer by J.Crew is wear-everywhere (day or night), with-everything (jeans or satin).

How can we look good in a blazer? It's easy! Just remember these three simple rules: Think curvy, not corporate; girly, not giant; and fun, not frumpy.

Short Shorts

It's almost Summer, so naturally that certain adventurous freedom is in the air. When it comes to fashion, that means the perfect excuse to act on a style crush- a piece so utterly cool, pretty or just right that resisting it is simply out of the question.Distressed denim shorts give summer's new look a street-wise vibe that's not so innocent. Been a while since you had shorts this short? Try these slightly longer versions:

Tops

New infatuations: This Summer's tops are a little dressier than the standards you've seen before and stripes will send your style in the right direction.

Getting dressed up like this doesn't have to be such a major production - just jazz up what you wear during the day.

Jessica is very natural and very feminine. She makes this outfit look effortless.

To compliment and make this look even more classic Jessica wears nude pumps by Franco Sarto and crossbody bag by Ted Baker.

Bows and other Details

But let's not forget about some intricate details, and a provocative sexy edge.  This season bows are wrapping up summer's sweet clothes and accessories.

Confident in Gingham Style!

We had a blast working with model Jessica Falco and are looking forward to more shoots with this beauty. She is super professional and absolutely stunning. Photographed by one and only John Rounds, beautified and hair-styled by amazing Danika Clevenstine. Styled by me.... :)

Danika Clevenstine working her magic.

Danika Clevenstine working her magic.

Let's talk about Jessica's look.  Gingham style, not to confuse with Gangnam Style, has been around since 1800s.  The actual fabric is over five hundred years old! And since 1940s the fabric has been favored by American actresses like Katharine Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and today's celebrities like Emily Rajtkowski.  For Jessica's look we chose, this trendy gingham A-line dress by Isaac Mizrahi that is cinched at the waist. And we're keeping this look clean and simple.

So, just to be clear, Gingham is not plaid! Here's how to tell them apart:

  • Gingham is always is white plus another color
  • Plaid can be any combination of colors
  • The lines in gingham have the same width
  • The lines in plaid have different widths

This classic look is fitting for a low key premiere or party.

IMNYC ISAAC MIZRAHI Gingham A-Line Shirtdress is on sale right now and you can purchase it here.

With Memorial Weekend upon us there is not other pattern that feels more All American than gingham.

Our theme for this photoshoot was Backstage Confidence.  Jessica did a phenomenal job in showcasing the evolution of confidence building that every model, actress or musician must go through. Self-assurance is a powerful value because it helps make dreams realities. Jessica seems to be the type of model that once she sets her mind on something , she goes for it.  What is important to understand is that beauty and ability comes from within and I think John Rounds did an unbelievable job in capturing just that!

So how does exactly Gingham's wholesomeness play into Confidence we're talking about? Because it is also hot, stylish and easygoing. But, most important, and I am sure we all agree,  it is very feminine!

The New Rules Of Wearing White Jeans

You've got the "white denim after labor day" thing down. Here's how to take it to the next level

Great sunglasses will boost your confidence.

Do a classic white, distressed, ankle skinny jeans. White denim can be timeless and can be worn all year round.

The magic is in the mix. Bring on the colors and textures and have fun!

Practice your stride. Build your off-duty wardrobe on rag & bone's laid-back high-top sneakers which sport whip-stitched laces for an old-school feel.

Go for it! Soft cotton denim gives this button-front shirt a laid-back, versatile ease perfect for the workweek and weekend alike.

What goes best with bright white skinny jeans? A bomber jacket of course!

Try accessories: forget what you've heard about over accessorizing! Accessories are fun and flattering!

I am wearing: Panama Hat: H&M, Sunglasses: Miu Miu (sold out, similar here), Choker Necklace: Aqua, Bomber Jacket: Topshop (sold out, similar here), Shirt: Equipment (sold out, similar here), Long Necklace from Anthropologie, Jeans: Paige Denim (sold out, similar here), Bag: Street Level, Sneakers: Rag&Bone (sold out, I like these too)
